This project is mainly aimed toward students in eleventh grade US History or AP US History. My hope is that the students not only read and answer the questions for each of the tasks, but also look at the pictures, venture throughout the websites, create ideas and opinions about these groups, and exercise their reading skills. Because this project mainly deals with minority groups in WWII, it is a great project for all schools, especially those with diverse cultural populations.
The CA teaching standards that are addressed in this project is History Social Science Standard 11.7.2, but more specifically 11.7.3.
In addition, this WebQuest could serve for the purposes of English Language Arts standards for grades 9-12.
9th and 10th Grade: "Writing- Research and Technology"
11th and 12th Grade: "Writing- Organization and Focus"

- 11.7.2- Explain U.S. and Allied wartime strategy, including the major battles of Midway, Normandy, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, and the Battle of the Bulge.
- 11.7.3- Identify the roles and sacrifices of individual American soldiers, as well as the unique contributions of the special fighting forces (e.g., the Tuskegee Airmen, the 442nd Regimental Combat team, the Navajo Code Talkers).
In addition, this WebQuest could serve for the purposes of English Language Arts standards for grades 9-12.
9th and 10th Grade: "Writing- Research and Technology"
- 1.3- Use clear research questions and suitable research methods (e.g., library, electronic media, personal interview) to elicit and present evidence from primary and secondary sources.
- 1.4- Develop the main ideas within the body of the composition through supporting evidence (e.g., scenarios, commonly held beliefs, hypotheses, definitions).
11th and 12th Grade: "Writing- Organization and Focus"
- 1.1- Demonstrate an understanding of the elements of discourse (e.g., purpose, speaker, audience, form) when completing narrative, expository, persuasive, or descriptive writing assignments.
- 1.3- Structure ideas and arguments in a sustained, persuasive, and sophisticated way and support them with precise and relevant examples.
